Stephanie Lake Company’s brand new work VISTA is a dance in two halves, bound together by a pulsing through-line of rhythm, invention and design. Act One unfolds in stark black and white: precise, razor-edged, a world of dualities - doubt and faith, real and fake, crisis and victory. The second act detonates into colour, as if the same reality has been refracted through psychedelic glass. Structures repeat, choreographic motifs re-emerge, but everything is transformed - lush and hallucinatory.
At its heart, the work wrestles with the slipperiness of perception: how one moment, one conversation, one event can splinter into different readings depending on who is watching, and from where.
What anchors it all is the body in motion: blistering dancing that marries precision with abandon, musicality with poetics. With costuming from iconic Melbourne brand ALPHA60 and music by internationally acclaimed audio-visual artist Robin Fox, the dancers and collaborators drive this shape-shifting world, where monochrome discipline collides with kaleidoscopic, joyful release.
Returning to Brisbane Powerhouse after bringing hit show Colossus in 2024, VISTA is the next epic show from one of Australia’s most probing choreographers.
