This December, MyState Bank Arena is launching something brand new: our very first Outdoor Cinema Series. We're transforming the riverside lawn into Hobart's cosiest open-air movie theatre, and there's no better way to kick things off than with a night of Christmas favourites under the stars. Spread out a blanket and let the river breeze do the rest while we bring the big screen to the grass.
Whether you're after a laid-back family afternoon or a big night out with friends, this is one for the whole community to enjoy together — and mark the start of what we hope becomes a much-loved MyState Bank Arena tradition.

3:00pm — Family Session - Home Alone
Kick off the festivities early with a Christmas classic the whole family can enjoy. Bring the kids and settle in on the grass as the afternoon sun gives way to golden hour over the river — the perfect low-key start to the silly season.
7:00pm — MA15+ Double Feature - Love Actually & Die Hard
As the sun sets, the grown-ups take over. It's the ultimate Christmas double bill — start with the warmth and laughs of Love Actually, then turn things up with the explosive action of Die Hard. Grab your partner, round up your mates, and make a proper night of it under the stars.
Food & Drink
No need to pack the snacks — we've got you covered. Popcorn, snacks, and hot food will be available on-site throughout the day, and the bar will be open for the 7pm MA15+ double feature, serving beer, wine, cider and other refreshments (18+ with valid ID required for alcohol purchases).
Soft drink, water, and tea and coffee will also be available for all sessions.
What to Bring
- A picnic blanket, cushions, or a low-back beach-style chair (to keep sightlines clear for everyone behind you)
- A jacket or throw rug for once the sun goes down — river evenings can turn cool, even in December
- Credit or debit card for food, drinks, and bar purchases - we are a cashless venue
Gates open 30 minutes before both sessions, so come ahead of time to grab your favourite patch of grass and settle in before the movie starts.

- Rain or shine: This is an outdoor event — updates on any weather-related changes will be posted ahead of each screening

- Bar: Open for the 7pm MA15+ double feature (18+, valid ID required)
- Age restriction: The 7pm session is MA15+ — please bring ID if you may be asked to show proof of age
