Marie Davidson has never made music for the passive listener.

Her work confronts. Challenges. Thrills. The Québécois producer, DJ and sonic provocateur arrives in Australia this August for the first time — with a live show that’s part rave, part resistance.

Davidson doesn’t fit into genre or format. That’s the point. Her music — raw, industrial, deeply human — dissects the anxieties of the digital age. It critiques. It collapses boundaries. It stares into the algorithm and doesn’t blink.

Her sixth solo album City of Clowns, co-produced with Soulwax and longtime collaborator Pierre Guerineau, is released on DEEWEE — the label helmed by Soulwax — and takes on Big Tech with pneumatic force, retooling Y2K flashbacks for a darker, data-soaked world. You don’t just hear this record — you feel it.

And live, it lands even harder.

Her performances engulf. Part performance art, part club ritual — Davidson builds a world of tension and release. Unflinching. Euphoric. Vital.

In August, she plays two shows only: Eora’s Factory Theatre and Naarm’s Now or Never Festival.

Dystopia you can dance to.
