Following on from their recent Australian tour announce, beloved Scottish indie pop group Belle and Sebastian have added a one-off show in Perth at The Astor Theatre performing Tigermilk in full as well as favourites from their stellar catalogue. Belle and Sebastian helped define a generation of indie pop with their quietly radical sound. Considered pioneers of the twee pop genre, the band became known for their intricate, 60’s inspired arrangements. With their charming, nostalgic sound characterised by frontman Stuart Murdoch’s introspective lyrics, the band offered an alternative to the bravado of Britpop.

ON SALE NOW

Belle and Sebastian’s debut album Tigermilk has since achieved near-mythic status among indie pop devotees. Originally pressed in a run of just 1,000 vinyl copies after being recorded as part of a college music course, the album introduced Stuart Murdoch’s tender, sharply observed songwriting to the world. From the jangling immediacy of “The State I Am In” to the buoyant introspection of “Expectations,” Tigermilk pairs literate, character-driven storytelling with chamber-pop flourishes and understated melodic hooks. What began as a word-of-mouth treasure quickly became the blueprint for the band’s signature sound - wistful yet witty, intimate yet quietly ambitious. In retrospective praise, outlets including Pitchfork have hailed Tigermilk as a remarkably assured debut, noting its emotional intelligence and melodic sophistication, while The Guardian has celebrated the band’s early work for its poetic sensitivity and charm. Rolling Stone has likewise recognised the album’s enduring cult appeal, citing its formative influence on late-’90s indie pop.
Decades on, Tigermilk remains a touchstone release - a quietly revolutionary first chapter that helped define an era of thoughtful, bookish guitar music.
raised as a “thoroughly impressive live band with an arsenal of songs that will always leave audiences wanting even more” (Volume Media), Belle & Sebastian create a stage dynamic that’s “both chaotic and utterly captivating" (Backseat Mafia).
